COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
FIXTURE, LIGHTING
(FLUORESCENT, INDUSTRIAL)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description in preference to Federal Specification W-F-1234, Type I.
This description covers industrial fluorescent lighting fixtures for use on either 120 V or 277 V, 60 Hz. current.
Salient characteristics:
The fixture shall be an individually mounted, open-end reflector.
The fixture shall reflect 85 to 92 percent of the light downward.
The reflective surfaces shall be white and have a minimum reflectance of 86 percent.
Ballasts shall have the UL listing mark, class P, ETL certified and have a non-polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) insulating fluid.
Ballasts shall be rapid start with a high power factor.
Ballasts, sockets, all electrical wiring and components shall be replaceable without removing fixture.
The ballasts for two 40 watt F40T12/RS lamps shall not exceed 90 input watts when tested in accordance with ANSI Standard No. C82.2
Ballasts shall be held firmly in contact with the metal of the fixture.
The fixture shall have a 6-foot electric cable assembly, 18 gage, 3 conductor with an electric plug in accordance with NEMA WD-1 configuration 5-L5P.
Lamps shall not be furnished.
The fixture shall be furnished with a 10-inch central suspension without mounting hardware.
All surfaces shall be finished, except for cut edges.
The fixture shall have the UL listing mark in accordance with UL Standard No. 1570, and be of the type indicated in the following table.

Workmanship. The fixture shall have no defect that affect serviceability or appearance.
The issues of NEMA WD-1, ANSI C82.2 and UL 1570 in effect on the date of solicitation shall be used to determine compliance with these requirements.
Regulatory requirements. The manufacturer shall utilize recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable.
Packaging, packing, and marking. Packaging, packing, and marking shall be as specified in the contract or order.
