COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
FIXTURE, LIGHTING
(FLUORESCENT SURFACE MOUNTED)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description in preference to Federal Specification W-F-1662, class IV, arrangements A or C, mountings 10R2
This commercial item description covers surface mounted fluorescent lighting fixtures for use on either 120V or 277 V, 60 Hz alternating current.
Salient characteristics:
The fixture shall be individually mounted or row mounted.
The fixture shall reflect 85 to 95 percent of the light downward.
The reflective surfaces shall be white and have a reflectance of 86 percent.
Ballasts shall have UL listing mark, class P, ETL certified and have a non-polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) insulating fluid.
Ballasts shall be rapid start with a high power factor.
The type of wires shall be in accordance with UL Standard 1570.
Ballasts, sockets, all electrical wiring and components shall be replaceable without removing fixture.
The ballast for two (40 watt) F40T12/RS lamps shall not exceed 90 input watts when tested in accordance with ANSI Standard C82.2.
Ballasts shall be held firmly in contact with the metal of the fixture.
F40T 12/LW/RS or equal lamps shall be furnished.
The fixture shall have a steel housing with baked enamel finish.
Fixture housing shall have a separate installed grounding device, as required by UL 1570.
The diffuser shall be a prismatic acrylic patterned type with pyramid-prisms on the bottom enclosed in a metal frame and linear prisms on the side (inside or outside).
The diffuser shall swing open on hinges from either side of the luminaire.
The diffuser shall have a hanging or a latching device so as to prevent actual engagement of the diffuser frame from the fixture.
The types of fixtures shall be in accordance with table I.

The fixture shall have the UL listing mark in accordance with UL Standard No. 1570.
The issue of ANSI C82.2 and UL 1570 in effect on the date of the solicitation shall be used to determine compliance with these requirements.
